Issue

Welcome back to a new issue of AI4DEVS, a unique point of view for developers and decision-makers approaching machine learning.

AWS ML Hero Francesco Pochetti introduces optical character recognition problems with a direct comparison between EasyOCR, Tesseract, and Amazon Textract, a great starting point if you’re evaluating a solutionf to recognize written text into actionable strings.

Natural Language Processing is becoming a trend topic due to its endless applications making machines able to understand and communicate with humans. Some companies such as Hugging Face raise the bar of what can be achieved, publishing a huge number of already available ML models to be used as is or transfer learned to understand specific topics.

AWS ML Community Builder Salah Elhossiny shows how everyone could train an HuggingFace model on Sagemaker with ease. There are a few tutorials out there, but Salah is extremely understandable even if you have never used Sagemaker before. A more complex use case comes from Phillipp Schmid AWS ML Hero, with an article about how to Run a Batch Transform Job using Hugging Face Transformers and Amazon SageMaker
